About Gates Paint & Body

Christina Gates

I have been in the automotive industry for  two decades with an array of mechanical, dealership and MSO collision shop experience.  I am ASE, I-Car Platinum certified as well as independently licensed across the country — from Alaska to New York — and hold all-lines adjuster licenses in multiple states.

I prepare accurate automotive estimates for customer-pay, collision, and insurance-related repairs based on damage photographs provided by the client.  Depending on your location - field appraisals are available.

I also support repair facilities that lack estimating software or the staffing and offer professional estimate and supplement writing through Mitchell and CCCOne.  I am well versed on insurance guidelines for various carriers and have worked on both sides. My role is not to replace your service advisors —  I support them by strengthening your billing. Depending on your location - field appraisals are available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Free shop estimates are typically written by service advisors, not licensed auto appraisers. They are often quick, preliminary assessments meant to get your vehicle scheduled or gain your business — not a complete evaluation of damages.

I am ASE, I-Car Platinum certified as well as independently licensed across the country — from Alaska to New York — and hold all-lines adjuster licenses in multiple states.  My estimates are focused on accuracy, documentation, and insurance compliance if applicable.

In many body shops, the initial estimate is written by a service advisor. While service advisors play an important role in managing workflow and customer communication, they are often not licensed appraisers and may not have a technical automotive background.

Because of this, shop estimates are commonly:

  • Written quickly to move the vehicle into production

  • Based mainly on visible damage

  • Dependent on teardown and technician input to identify additional operations

  • Corrected later through supplements

My role combines the knowledge and responsibilities of a technician, insurance adjuster, and licensed appraiser. With formal mechanical training, hands-on repair experience, and insurance claim expertise, I am able to:

  • Independently identify required repair operations

  • Understand how the vehicle is repaired — not just what is visible

  • Document the loss correctly from an insurance perspective (if applicable)

  • Write estimates that are accurate, complete, and defensible

Rather than relying on teardown to “discover” the repair, I anticipate what the repair will require and document it properly from the start.

In most corporate owned body shops, service advisors are not individually licensed auto appraisers. While the business may operate under a license, the person writing the estimate often is not.

I am ASE, I-Car Platinum certified as well as independently licensed across the country — from Alaska to New York — and hold all-lines adjuster licenses in multiple states.    I do not rely on technicians to determine what should be written — I am fully capable of identifying and steering the proper repair based on the loss.

Yes. While supplements can still be necessary after teardown, a thorough and accurate initial estimate can reduce:

  • Missed operations

  • Back-and-forth with insurance

  • Payment delays

  • Repairing total losses

The goal is to document as much of the loss correctly from the start.
